Delete These Words from Your Vocabulary

Kia ora, welcome to Nurtured with Naketa.

Every two weeks, I’m back in your inbox and back on the blog, sharing insights as I navigate the leadership, coaching, and facilitation space.

I usually share something off the cuff that’s been sitting on my mind for about three to five minutes, and that then becomes the email. In this day and age of AI-generated newsletters, emails, videos, and images, I’m just coming at you raw.

Today, I wanted to share something that’s been really high interest across my social media, but also in some of the coaching sessions I’ve been having.

And that is this:

Delete these words immediately from your vocabulary.

In other words, I want you to delete:

Imposter syndrome.

If I could invite you to kick those words out the door and reframe things in this way…

The way I see it now, after lots of rangahau, lots of research, and lots of self-reflection, is this:

I know some stuff about some stuff.

You know some stuff about some stuff.

Everyone knows some stuff about some stuff.

No one will ever know all the stuff about all the stuff.

We’re all bringing different things into our mahi, our work, our relationships, and the spaces we move through. We all know some stuff about some stuff.

And it’s quite funny because I’ve always prided myself on being addicted to learning — being a lifelong learner.

From someone who left high school with no formal qualifications, literally going for the social life, to getting certificates and moving through academically and career-wise as well…

I had a friend comment on one of my social posts saying, “Well, you know quite a lot of stuff about some stuff.”

Maybe I do.

But there’s still so much more that I want to learn.

Even recently, my mother-in-law made an amazing lamb chop taro leaves dish, and I remember thinking, “I don’t know how to make that yet.”

Yet.

That’s the thing.

We all have stuff to learn. That’s how I see it.

You know some stuff.
I know some stuff.
We know some stuff.

And no one will ever know all the stuff.

Mauri ora,
Naketa
